April 13, 2012
Utah Republican Candidate Joins Wimmer and Sandstrom in Taking Second Step to Achieving ‘Young Gun’ Status
Washington --- The National Republican Congressional Committee today announced Mia Love as an ‘On the Radar’ candidate, the important second step in the ‘Young Guns’ program. Founded during the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the ‘Young Guns’ program is a Member-driven effort that is the primary method for recruiting strong candidates for both open-seat and challenger races. Love is running in Utah’s Fourth Congressional District.
“We are looking forward to working with Mia Love, who has already proven herself by meeting rigorous benchmarks in the ‘Young Guns’ program that will position her campaign for victory,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Mia Love’s dedication and experience enables her to advocate effectively for pro-growth policies and fight the failed status quo in Washington. This will stand in stark contrast to the Obama-Pelosi record of spending, borrowing and taxing that Utah families and small businesses know has failed.”
The ‘Young Guns’ program encourages candidates who have proven their ability to meet crucial campaign benchmarks to develop their campaigns further in order to achieve victory on Election Day. In achieving ‘On the Radar’ status, Mia Love has met organizational and fundraising benchmarks and has already begun to establish herself as a strong contender. Love will now work toward even higher goals that will help her advance in the ‘Young Guns’ program and build an effective, winning campaign.
Mia Love served two terms on the city council of Saratoga Springs, one of Utah’s fastest growing cities. As City Councilwoman and eventually Mayor, Mia led the city through a period of 1700% population growth in a decade. Love is best known for her conservative positions on limited government, increased citizen liberties and limited restraints on business. She believes the best thing she can do as mayor is stay out of the way of business and out of the lives of citizens. She is a wife and mother of 3 children. In her spare time Mia is an avid runner, tread trainer, and accomplished singer and dancer.
Additional candidate(s) for Utah’s Fourth Congressional District that have advanced to ‘On the Radar’ status in the Young Guns program include: Carl Wimmer and Stephen Sandstrom.

Josh Romney Endorses Mia Love For Congress
(Salt Lake City) -- Josh Romney, son of GOP nominee and Utah favorite Mitt Romney, has announced his endorsement of Mia Love’s congressional campaign. “Republicans must elect a candidate who will beat Jim Matheson this November,” said Romney. “That’s why I am 100% behind Mia Love. I will do all I can to make sure she is the next member of Congress from Utah.” Love is one of five candidates seeking the Republican nomination in Utah’s 4th congressional district.
In addition to endorsing Love, Romney will actively assist her campaign with fundraising. Romney’s connections to some of Utah’s key political donors have already resulted in several maximum donations allowed under federal law, with more donations pledged. “Jim Matheson’s out-of-state war chest has been one of his largest advantages over his past six Republican opponents.” according to Love. “With Josh Romney’s help, we’re going to even the playing field this November.”
“We’re excited to have Josh join our team,” Love said. “The Romney name is well-known in Utah and associated with success and Josh is a very well-respected businessman here in Utah. We expect to do a joint town hall just before the state convention that we think will help us secure the delegate votes needed to move forward and focus our attention on Matheson.” The Republican Nominating Convention is Saturday, April 21 at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy.
Get to know Mia Love
In November 2011, Mia Love filed to run for Utah’s newly formed 4th Congressional District based on her demonstrated leadership on conservative principles. She credits her parents with providing the foundation for her ideals. After many years of living in the unstable, regime-torn socialist island country of Haiti, her parents immigrated legally to the United States with $10 in their pockets in hopes of achieving the American Dream.
Mia was born in Brooklyn, New York and eventually moved to Connecticut. Mia recalls both parents working hard to earn a living, her father at times taking on second jobs cleaning toilets to pay for school for their three children. On the day of Mia’s college orientation, her father said something to her that would become the ethos for her life:
“Mia, your mother and I never took a handout.
You will not be a burden to society. You will give back.”
Mia graduated from the University of Hartford with a degree in fine arts. She found faith. Then she found Jason. And then she found herself in Utah ready to give back. Mia served two terms on the city council of Saratoga Springs, one of Utah’s fastest growing cities. As City Councilwoman and eventually Mayor, Mia led the city through a period of 1700% population growth in a decade. Under her leadership, the city was able to successfully navigate the drastic transition from agricultural fields to a booming residential community. When the citizen growth necessitated fire and police services, Mia fought to make sure the city’s first ever residential tax implementation would only pay for those essential services, and she structured it in such a way that the tax decreased as a percentage of property value.
